AWS Cloud O&M Support Engineer
Job Description
Avilamb Inc. is seeking an AWS Cloud Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Support Engineer to support the upcoming Library of Congress (LOC) program. The engineer will provide technical support and expertise for all cloud-based systems hosted in AWS and on-premises environments, focusing on operational support, performance optimization, and ensuring compliance with IT security requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Operations Support:
Monitor AWS-hosted and on-prem systems to ensure reliable performance.
Proactively address operational issues, including resource utilization, system load, and error logs.
Manage database credentials, monitor storage capacity, and implement configuration changes for enhanced system reliability.
CI/CD Pipeline Management:
Operate and maintain the NLS CI/CD DevOps system, including tools such as Git, Jenkins, Kubernetes, and Docker Swarm.
Manage the automation of deployments and the creation of Jenkins scripts for new environments.
Security and Compliance:
Monitor security logs and audit trails, ensuring systems meet NIST SP 800-53 standards and other Library IT directives.
Implement system patches and coordinate with NLS and OCIO for deployment scheduling.
Key Management:
Manage encryption keys in AWS Key Management System (KMS), including key creation, rotation, and data encryption.
Support secure storage and handling of sensitive NLS data.
Technical Documentation and Support:
Maintain up-to-date CI/CD and operational documentation to reflect current configurations.
Provide technical support and training for end-users accessing CI/CD systems and utilities.
Variable/On-Demand Tasks:
Create new VMs and environments to support development and testing.
Integrate new systems and software, including certificate and license installations.
Provide backup restoration and testing as required.
Collaboration and Reporting:
Collaborate with NLS, OCIO, and other contractors to ensure seamless system integration.
Provide weekly progress updates and monthly reports detailing operational support activities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in cloud operations, AWS, and DevOps environment support.
Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, etc.) and Terraform scripts for infrastructure management.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with database management, key rotation, and encryption standards.
Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with federal IT security standards, including FISMA and NIST SP 800-53.
Certifications: AWS Cloud Foundational and/or Associate certifications or equivalent is highly preferred.
Agile Methodology: Understanding of Agile project framework and ceremonies
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with agile methodologies and task management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).

Work Environment
- Location: Remote with coordination for tasks requiring on-site interaction.
- Hours: Standard hours, with availability for high-priority issues as needed.
- Security Clearance: Must pass a U.S. federal government background check and maintain residency in the continental U.S. for at least three consecutive years.
